The Course
Structure
HypnoBirthing is designed as a structured but informal class format that teaches about the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of birth.
The course is broken down into five classes of 2.5 hours each or four classes of 3 hours each, taking place once a week for consecutive weeks.
Ideally you should aim to commence the HypnoBirthing course around the 28th week of pregnancy but successful HypnoBirths have taken place with training as late as the 38th week!
Course Outline
HypnoBirthing is a complete antenatal education course. The course content includes the following:
Session 1: The physiology of labour - the structure of the uterus and how it works, birth hormones, the effect of fear and tension in labour, birth history & sociology, how hypnosis and the subconscious mind works, how deep relaxation helps birth preparation and the birth process.
Session 2: Getting ready for the baby, birth locations, birth choices, the birthing environment, relaxation routines & techniques, breathing techniques in labour, preparing the body for birth, massage technique for labour, pregnancy exercises & toning, pregnancy nutrition.
Session 3: Birth preferences, writing the birth plan, optimal fetal positioning, special circumstances, natural & artificial induction of labour, how the body prepares for birth, releasing negative emotions, fears & limiting thoughts.
Session 4: Onset of labour - the thinning & opening phase, triage & setting up the birth environment, progression of labour, the role of the birth companion, natural methods to restart labour, communicating with the medical staff, advanced labour.
Session 5: Hallmarks of labour, advanced labour & completion, birthing phase, positioning & repositioning, birth, bonding.
